Everything you need to know About Native American Art

Native American artwork is some of the most fascinating. Archeologists that have found pieces of art from this group of people have been very excited. The art not only tells about the Indians traditions and customs, but it also tells many stories about families and what they went through as a people.

Some of the most popular pieces of artwork that we get from the Native Americans are dream catchers. Many children have them in their rooms to help catch the bad dreams and only let in the good ones. The Native Americans used these to keep their children having nightmares. They originated in the Ojibway culture and were made by tying pieces of sinew strands in a web across a frame. The frame was shaped in a tear like formation. The Cherokee, Navajo and Lakota Indians caught on and began making them for their children with leather frames.

Other vital pieces of Native American art is basket weaving. The baskets were used to serve two purposes. One was for carrying things like fruit and vegetables. They spent a lot of time making the baskets and used very detailed and intricate weaving patterns. The baskets were not only used to carry things, but they were created for their beauty and their tribal patterns were woven into them.

Other Native American art pieces that were made were blankets. The blankets were not just woven for warmth and comfort, but they were woven to be stunning pieces of art. Along with their beauty, they were also used for clothing. The thicker blankets served them well in the winter, while the thinner ones kept them warm on cooler evenings.

Beadwork is some of the most unique pieces of art that you can find in the Native American community. The beads are made with certain designs that represent the tribe that they live in. The beadwork is made with many things including stones, copper, silver and animal bones. The Native American women also sewed the beads into clothes, moccasins, pouches and headdresses. If you have the opportunity to purchase any type of Native American artwork, do so, it will enhance your life.
