The Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem is located 82 miles from New York and 50 miles from Philadelphia. It opened in 2011 at a cost of $743 million and was built on the site the former Bethlehem Steel plant. Since its opening the Sands Casino in Bethlehem has been the most successful casino in Pennsylvania.
In late 2016 Sands Casino filed plans for a $90 million 100,000-square-foot expansion of its facilities. It will be a two-story construction project on the north side of the casino that will add 35,570 square feet of gambling space, 370 slot machines, 50 table games, 30 new poker tables, and two restaurants (a noodle bar and possibly a Cheesecake Factory). If construction starts in January 2017, the opening date would be by end of 2017.
