Elk Valley Resort Casino Wins Fed Approval

March 24, 2008

CRESCENT CITY - On March 18th the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs accepted the Elk Valley Rancheria's application for transfer 200+ acres in Del Norte County into federal trust for the purpose of building the new Elk Valley Resort and Casino.

The land is 203.5 acres located at martin Ranch on U.S. 101 and Humboldt Road. It is about a mile from the Rancheria. Plans call for 9.5 acres to be used for building the casino resort consisting of a 40,000-square-foot casino, a 156-room hotel, restaurants, and a conference center.

Rancheria chairman Dale Miller said: "We are excited about our economic future. We successfully completed a process that took nearly seven years. We satisfied the most rigorous environmental review and various changes in federal policy. We could not have done so without the support of the local community and the steadfast commitment of the Tribal Council and Tribal staff and consultants. Of course, we also have our General Counsel, Bradley Bledsoe-Downes and he has been an invaluable asset to Elk Valley Rancheria and has accomplished that which other Tribes have not been able to accomplish. Another great asset is David Zweig of Analytical Environmental Services (AES). Our success in this process was expedited and completed because of their expertise, commitment and knowledge in the field."

Vice-Chairman John Green added: "We survived termination and exceeded the expectations of many nay-sayers. We are an integral part of the community and we look forward to continued success and cooperation with the community."

CEO Gerry Nailon said: "This is the beginning of an economic renaissance in Crescent City and Del Norte County. We expect that the Tribe's success will be the catalyst for community wide economic development."
