River Rock liquor license granted

June 3, 2008 ;

SONOMA COUNTY - Until now the River rock Casino has never sold alcohol since it was built 5 years ago. The casino has now been granted a new liquor license by the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.  This follows an agreement made last March between Sonoma County and the Dry Creek Rancheria tribe.

In the agreement the county dropped several legal challenges to the casino, including opposition to a liquor license, and the tribe agreed to restrictions on using the license, as well as a revenue-sharing agreement of $100 million over 12 years to offset the impacts of its casino expansion. The tribe agreed not to sell hard liquor between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays and to stop all alcohol drinks after midnight except weekends.

As the first step to using the new license, River Rock Casino is now selling beer and wine in the Quail Run Restaurant.

Quail Run Restaurant hours of operation:

  Monday 11 am - 11 pm
  Tuesday 11 am - 11 pm
  Wednesday 11 am - 11 pm
  Thursday 11 am - 11 pm
  Friday 11 am - 12 am midnight
  Saturday 11 am - 12 am midnight
  Sunday 10 am - 11 pm

Alcohol is prohibited from being served on the casino floor. Unlike Nevada casinos, the gaming compacts of most California Indian casinos prohibit the serving free drinks.
