Gov. Schwarzenegger to veto online bingo bill

September 22, 2008

SACRAMENTO - The online bingo bill (SB 1369) will allow California Indian casinos to set up networked online bingo games across the state. Referred to as "remote caller bingo", the bill would link multiple bingo game via the internet making California the first state to legalize online bingo gaming.

A leading authority on gambling law, I. Nelson Rose, says the bill could "lead to the greatest expansion of legal gambling in history."

Charity group oppose the legislation claiming it will outlaw the electronic bingo machines they use to raise funds. The tribal business alliance, however, disputes this argument.

If passed, Governor Schwarzenegger has said he will veto the legislation.
