Five tribes in California and the state have agreed on gaming compacts and the Bureau of Indian Affairs has not taken any action on the compacts in either granting approval or rejecting the compacts.
Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act the bureau has 45 days to review the compacts before giving a final decision on granting approval.
On December 05 the compacts became provisionally valid.
The tribes involved at the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians, the Jamul Indian Village, the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, and the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.
Of these tribes the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians are the only ones without a casino. However in June they were given approval for Class III gaming. The tribe has proposed the Buena Vue Casino project.
Any information on why the Bureau of Indian Affairs has not approved any of the compacts has not been given publicly.
