BRANDON, MB - Brandon residents voted against a proposed casino in a plebiscite Wednesday, however, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs are moving forward with plans for a casino somewhere else in the Westman area. Chief of Long Plain First Nation, Dennis Meeches, said other areas have been under consideration for a casino site. He said downtown Brandon was not the first choice. Other possible sites are the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and other nearby First Nations. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs have set 2009 as their target date for the casino.
