Wildwood Casino to open in Cripple Creek

May 28, 2008

CRIPPLE CREEK, CO - The new $80-million Wildwood Casino will be the largest casino in Cripple Creek when it opens this weekend.

FEATURES
45,000 square feet
680 slot machines
14 table games
Poker room
Restaurants

G.M. Kevin Werner said "We like to think that we could take this casino and take our restaurants and put it in the middle of a large city anywhere and compete. It’s like a casino you'd find in Black Hawk or Central City and that's the idea. There are 250,000 trips out of Colorado Springs and Pueblo that actually go to Black Hawk. So we feel like there's an opportunity to capture some of that market."

Cripple Creek’s Mayor Dan Baader is hoping the new casino revives his city’s slumping economy. He said “From what I've seen, the success of Black Hawk and Central City was building larger casinos, so people would have more opportunities. Something new. Nothing's been new here for 12 years."
