Voters pass Amendment 50 on expanded gambling

November 5, 2008

DENVER – Colorado voters yesterday approved Amendment 50 to the Colorado Constitution to allow voters in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk, and Central City to vote in a referendum to expand gambling in their towns. Local voters will now decide whether to extend the hours of casino operation in their cities, higher betting limits, and new games.

The expectation is that voters will approve the following to go into effect July 1, 2009:

1. 24 hours a day casino operations.

2. Increase the betting limit to $100.

3. Add craps and roulette to join poker and blackjack.
