Churchill Downs begins casino constructionJune 5, 2009MIAMI - A groundbreaking ceremony was held this week for the first-ever casino in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Churchill Downs Inc. announced that construction has begun on the new 104,000-square-foot gambling site with Calder Race Course. Completion is expected in early 2010. The plan is to open the casino before the 2010 Super Bowl scheduled in nearby LandShark Stadium. The new casino will offer visitors 1,225 slot machines, valet parking and three restaurants.
