Illinois Gaming Board Blocks All-Night CasinosApril 24, 2008SPRINGFIELD, IL - Casinos in Illinois can operate up to 22 hours-a-day, however, casino owners had petitioned the Illinois State Gaming Board to extend this to 24 hours daily everyday of the week. They claimed this would help their revenues. However, after reviewing the proposal, the gaming board rejected the idea. Judge Aaron Jaffe, the chairman of the gaming board, said “We heard from a lot of people, especially people who were concerned about individuals who were compulsive gamblers who might not leave the premises and go 'round the clock.” He said he does not think the two additional hours would give owners the revenue bump they're looking for. He added that money was not the only consideration. Return to Illinois Casinos. |
