Des Plaines, Rosemont, Waukegan finalists for last casino licenseDecember 13, 2008The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) has narrowed the number of applicants from seven down to three for the tenth and last casino license in Illinois. The selections are Des Plaines, Rosemont and Waukegan. ROSEMONT Trilliant Gaming Illinois LLC bid $435 million for a proposed site in Rosemont west of River Road between Balmoral and Bryn Mawr avenues, fronting on I-294. IGB members voted 5-0 to choose this finalist. WAUKEGAN Waukegan Gaming LLC bid $225 million for the former Lakehurst Mall site near Waukegan Road and Route 120 in Waukegan. IGB members voted 5-0 to choose this finalist. DES PLAINES Midwest Gaming & Entertainment LLC bid $150 million for a site at the northwest quadrant of Des Plaines River Road and Devon Avenue in Des Plaines. IGB members voted 3-2 to choose this finalist. Michael Fries, the chief counsel for the gaming board, said “No one should assume that by naming three finalists, the board has tacitly approved any ownership group, any person associated with an ownership group or any entity that controls, directly or indirectly, the location or property on which the gaming facility will be located.” The three finalists made presentations in a public meeting of the board in November. In early December a meeting was held at which any member of the public could address the board regarding the three finalists. The gaming board has stated that it intends to make a decision by the end of the year although no date has been announced. Return to Illinois Casinos. |
