New Casino Proposed for Steuben County

December 19, 2007

HAMMOND – The owner of the two Majestic Star casinos in Gary would like to consolidate both into one larger casino and transfer his second state gaming license to build a new casino in Steuben County in northeast Indiana, a county that borders Ohio and Michigan.

The casino owner, Don Barden, has discussed his proposal with State Senator Robert Meeks of LaGrange, who yesterday filed a bill to legalize the move. Senator Meeks said a possible location would be the Buck Lake Ranch in Angola.

The bill will be difficult to pass during the short session of the General Assembly, however, if approved, the voters of Steuben County would have the opportunity to decide the issue in a referendum.
