January 20, 2009 MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Blue Chip casino has opened its new, luxurious 22-story hotel to compete with the Four Winds Casino Resort that opened about 10 miles away in August 2007 and the $485 million gambling barge at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond that opened last summer. Blue Chip's business has fallen nearly 40% since the opening of the Four Winds Casino. The Blue Chip hotel is designed in shades of blue to portray the colors of nearby Lake Michigan. It features 486 rooms and suites, the 15,000-square-foot Stardust event center, the 10,000-square foot Spa Blu and new bars and restaurants. The casino has more than 2,000 slot machines and 51 gaming tables. David Strow, spokesman for casino, said "What we're working toward and what we believe we will become is a regional entertainment destination.” Return to Indiana Casinos. |
