Bids for Cherokee County casino open again

September 30, 2008

The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission voted unanimously to send the selection process for a casino in Cherokee County back to the Lottery Commission after Penn National backed out of the project. The Lottery Commission will now accept new bids for the next 30 days.

Cherokee County is suing Penn National for breach of contract, and a Shawnee County district judge will rule this week whether the company must forfeit the $25 million fee paid with its application.
