SUMNER COUNTY – Last Thursday residents in Sumner County Learned they will now have to wait longer for a casino they had approved several years ago.
The Chisholm Creek developers have pulled out of the project after Governor Mark Parkinson refused to grant them more time to sort out the future of casino gambling in the state. The factors include a state smoking ban that could affect business at the casino as well as potential legislation to license slots at state racetracks.
The Sumner County casino will likely now return to the bidding process through the Kansas Lottery. The Chisholm Creek developers may be expected resubmit to resubmit their bid but their price will be much lower than their previous proposal.
