Casino Initiative will proceed to November BallotAUGUSTA, ME - A citizen-initiated bill to authorize a casino in Oxford County casino will appear on Maine’s ballot in November after the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee voted unanimously against the measure in the legislature. The legislature could have approved the initiative making it effective without a voter referendum. Despite the committee's rejection, several legislators said they will vote in favor of it in the fall. Rep. John Patrick, D-Rumford, the committee chairman, said "I can envision a wonderful four-season resort casino in Oxford County. I don't think there's ever been a perfect citizen's initiative that has come forward, but it's about the concept and the idea behind it: Do people want a casino in Oxford County or don't they want one?"
