Land owned by the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe has been designated a reservation officially by the federal government. The approval was made on Friday.

The recognition of reservation land now makes it easier for the tribe to move forward with plans to build their sovereign tribal nation and resort gaming facility.

In September the U.S. Department of Interior approved the application to put land into trust for the tribe.

In 2007 the tribe was given federal recognition.

Beginning in the spring time, the tribe will start with plans to build the casino 40 miles south of Boston in Tauton.

The tribe is also actively working towards becoming an established sovereign nation. For Mashpee Wampanoag tribe to do that, there must be services for public safety located on their land. They have already built a government center. Criminal laws have been adopted. Also needed are dispatch services, a booking room, and a holding cell.
