December 7, 2007 DIAMONDHEAD, MS – A deal for a casino in Diamondhead may be near. The location near Biloxi is 168 acres of upland with frontage on Interstate 10 and the Bay of St. Louis. The Mississippi Gaming Commission has permitted the property for two adjacent casinos. The land owner Diamondhead Casino has been seeking a partnership with an established casino operator. Last summer they turned down a $100 million proposal, but another deal may be close at hand. "We are in negotiations as we speak," Diamondhead Casino Vice President Gregory Harrison said Monday. "We have lots of activity at our door." Harrison said they would start with one casino and plan to add a retail center and housing. "Our land is so large we can mitigate on site," he said. Some of the wetlands will be donated for conservation in exchange for converting other land to buildable upland. Return to Mississippi Casinos. |
