State Senate Passes Limits On New Casino SitesMarch 31, 2008JACKSON, MS - The Mississippi Senate voted 34-16 Wednesday to approve a bill to limit sites for new casinos. At the same time the House approved a bill to prohibit casinos from opening in DeSoto, Bolivar, Jefferson and Wilkinson counties along the Mississippi River and Jackson County on the coast. The bills are Senate Bill 2199 and House Bill 1196, which are now expected to final House-Senate negotiations. The Senate bill also include a provision to include casino operators in a tax incentive program created in 2000 to boost tourism. Under that program, a company can recover up to 30 percent of its costs for attractions such as theme parks and museums. Return to Mississippi Casinos. |
