Voters reject Jefferson City Casino

April 14, 2008

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Last week the voters in Jefferson City defeated two propositions to authorize a local casino. Both lost 62% to 38%.

The propositions:
1. A measure to remove a ban on casinos from the city charter.
2. A measure to allow the city to issue a casino license to prospective developers.

A supporter with the group Casino Jefferson City, Ed Storey, said "I firmly believe that this would be a good source of revenue for Jefferson City that would not otherwise be available to improve our community and I still believe that."

Opponents disagree. They say the casino would ruin the city’s culture and impair business growth.
