Ground was broken on Friday morning for New Mexico's next casino. The Northern Edge Navajo Casino will be located in Upper Fruitland. This is near the reservation boarder near Farmington.

The casino is planned to open in January of 2012. When completed, it will be 85,000 square feet and cost an estimated $66 million. 1,600 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs will be created.

In 2003 gaming compacts were signed with New Mexico and Arizona. This allowed for gaming to take place on America's largest Indian reservation.

This will be the third casino for the Navajo Nation. The tribe's first casino was built in Church Rock, New Mexico in 2008.
