More Help To More Counties If NY Expands Gaming

May 08, 2013

Communities surrounding counties that operate casinos may also benefit if Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan is approved. According to the plan, casino revenue would extend to near by areas. Not just the ones that the casinos.

The offer of more communities benefiting from off reservation land is an effort to make the expanded gaming issue more acceptable.

Three casinos have been purposed in the upstate area. However the locations have not been announced as of yet.

Voters will still have the final say on whether or not to permit more casinos.

In the past, only counties that operate a casino have benefited from the revenue. The money is used to pay for additional services that the community needs. Such as police and firefighters.

The idea of additional casinos is still controversial. According to a recent survey, voters are spilt on the issue.

A vote on the gaming referendum is expected to take place this year or possibly next year.
