Ohio Ballot Board Accepts Casino ProposalDecember 24, 2007COLUMBUS – The Ohio Ballot Board unanimously approved the wording for a proposed constitutional amendment that was submitted by MyOhioNow.com. If passed, it would authorize construction of a $600 million resort and casino at the intersection of State Route 73 and Interstate 71 between Harveysburg and Wilmington. The Board’s approval was an essential step that allows the proposal’s organizers to commence gathering signatures for the November ballot. They must gather 402,275 signatures by August to add the petition to the November ballot. Dr. Bradford Pressman, co-founder of MyOhioNow.com, said "We strongly believe that we are finally presenting a casino issue that makes sense for Ohio. We believe that our petition collectors will be greeted enthusiastically throughout the state." "With 37 states and every state surrounding us that already have casinos, with Kentucky most likely starting next year, it is a proposal that will resonate with voters," Pressman said. "I think the Ohioans will appreciate that we won't hide that this is a proposal for a casino/resort and couch our language with euphemisms. Our approach is to be clear, direct, honest and transparent with our fellow Ohioans." Return to Ohio Casinos. |
