Downstream Casino opens near Kansas, Missouri borders

OTTAWA COUNTY, OK - The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma opened its new $300 million Downstream Casino at noon today. Tribal officials said more than 10,000 people packed the gaming floor within the first hour.

The casino is just south of Joplin at Exit 1 on I-44, and 45 minutes north of the Arkansas state line. It features one million square feet of slot machines, guest rooms and restaurants. The attached 12-story, 222-room luxury hotel, spa and conference center will open in November. The Quapaw bought the 36-hole Loma Linda Country Club across Interstate 44 in March, and added a 7, 500-seat outdoor concert venue just east of the casino’s main parking lot.

As reported by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: "The property entrance is in Missouri, parking is in Kansas and the front doors are in Oklahoma, but the casino floor is pure Las Vegas.

"Downstream Casino Resort at the Three-States Marker — where those states meet just west of Joplin — opens to the public Saturday. The media and about 2, 000 invited guests got a sneak peek of the gaming floor and its satellite bars and restaurants Wednesday.

"...The 70, 000-square-foot gaming area features 2, 000 slot machines, 30 table games, a 14-table poker room and a race book in the Legends Sports Bar just off the casino floor.

"It also features natural colors and textures in an open floor plan with custom carpets, artistic lighting and a luxurious style designed to lure Northwest Arkansas residents, casino officials said.”
