Groundbreaking for Pittsburgh’s Majestic Star Casino

PITTSBURGH, PA – A formal ground breaking ceremony was held today for the $450 Majestic Star Casino scheduled to open in April 2009. The site is 17 acres on the North Shore located between the Carnegie Science Center and West End Bridge.

The 480,000-square-foot casino will be a two-story structure with:

  • 3,000 Vegas-style slot machines
  • Five restaurants
  • Four bars
  • 20,000-square-foot ballroom
  • Riverfront amphitheater
  • 3,880-space parking garage

Future phase:

  • Showroom
  • Hotel

The casino made a recent design change to the enclose the sides of the parking garage in response to aesthetic critics. The change still requires approval by the city planning commission, which meets in January

It is estimated the casino will provide 1,000+ jobs, $240 million in new state tax revenues, and $10 million each to the city and county.
