The Narragansett Indian Tribe was ruled against by the Superior Court regarding gaming expansion and the November ballot.
The proposed bill would for allow the operation of table games at the state’s casinos. If passed by the voters, the Newport Grand and the Twin River could install these games. The tribe is against this believing that the bill shows favoritism towards the state casinos.
Currently the law states that casinos can only be approved by the voters. In 2006, the tribe proposed a casino to be built in West Warwick. However, it was denied by the voters.
An appeal is set to be filed by the Narragansett.
