KANSAS CITY, KS - Last month the Wyandotte County Unified Government rejected a proposal from The Las Vegas Sands Corp for a $750 million casino resort on a 50-acre site near Interstate 435 and Leavenworth Road. The reason was partially based on opposition by local residents who complained the project was inappropriate for their area.

But state officials redefined the application procedures and decided Sands and other rejected applicants could revise and resubmit their proposals. Last Friday Sand submitted a new plan which adds 100 acres of land to ease traffic congestion and add green space.

Sands vice president Andrew F. Abboud said "We took the last few weeks listening to the concerns of neighbors and the Unified Government. We went over it item by item and significantly revised that proposal. We're confident this is something they will be happy and comfortable with."

Sands proposes a casino with 5,000 slots and 200 table games, a hotel with 300 rooms, and an outdoor amphitheater.

The Sands' application is scheduled for a hearing March 10th by a city zoning panel and March 27th by the full Unified Government commission. If approved, it will be submitted to the Kansas Lottery on the deadline March 28th.
