KANSAS CITY, MO - State gambling agents have arrested a man for passing counterfeit chips at the Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa in Riverside. A cashier had noticed several $100 chips were slighter thicker and did not fit properly into storage racks.

An investigation found more than 1,100 of these counterfeit chips had been taken in recently by the casino. As a result all $100 chips were removed from play and replaced them with back-up inventory.

Lt. Bob Zubeck, the Highway Patrol's gambling enforcement supervisor for the state's western district, said there had been several cases of counterfeit chips being passed in Missouri since casinos were legalized in 1994. Previous cases generally involved poor quality chips. "These were really high quality, the best I've seen," he said.

The casino general manager Ameet Patel agreed. "They've done a fairly good job. They were very hard to spot."

Lt. Zubeck added there is no evidence the counterfeiters have hit other casinos in Kansas City.
