PALA, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Paced by the first "Pala Poker Open,"
Aug. 14-22, Pala Casino Spa & Resort will provide Southern California poker
players a full schedule of weekend and daily tournaments in August and an
advanced tournament training course taught by World Series of Poker Champion
Mike "The Mouth" Matusow to improve poker skills.
Pala's regular week-day tournaments will start at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday
through Friday. Each will have a $15 buy-in and a $5 entry fee with a $2,000
guarantee on Mondays and Fridays, and a $1,000 guarantee on Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday. There also will be a $5 staff bonus buy for an additional $1,000
in starting chips. From Monday Aug. 2 through Thursday, Aug. 12, each
first-place winner also will receive a seat in Matusow's DeepStacks Live
advanced tournament course from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20. On Friday,
Aug. 13, the first and second-place winners will also receive seats in Matusow's
course.
On Sunday, Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Aug. 29, there will be one tournament starting at
11 a.m. Each will have a $30 buy-in, a $5 entry fee and a $3,000 guarantee. On
Sunday, Aug. 1 and Aug. 8, the first, second and third-place winners also will
receive a seat in Matusow's training course. On Sunday, Aug. 29, that tournament
will have $3,000 in starting chips and a $5 optional staff bonus buy for $1,000
in chips.
On Saturday, Aug. 7 and Aug. 28, tournaments will start at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The 11 a.m. tournaments will have a $30 buy-in, a $5 entry fee and a $3,000
guarantee. The 4 p.m. events will be Mini Deep Stacks with a $125 buy-in, a $25
entry fee and a $5,000 guarantee. Blinds will be 25 minutes and each player will
start with $10,000 in chips.
Co-sponsored by DeepStacks Live, the industry leader in poker training, the Pala
Poker Open will provide Southern California poker players the opportunity to
compete against such players as World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Tom
McEvoy and UB.net sponsored pro Adam "Roothlus" Levy in the two-day final event;
participate in three-time WSOP bracelet winner Matusow's DeepStacks Live
Advanced Tournament training course, and play poker in seven separate
tournaments throughout the week.
A highlight of the tournament schedule will be a ladies only event at 4 p.m.,
Sunday, Aug. 15, sponsored by the Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS). It
will be Pala's first LIPS event. The buy-in will be $100 and the entry fee $25.
Each player will start with $10,000 in chips and there will be a $10 optional
bonus buy for an additional $5,000 in chips.
Matusow's Advanced Tournament course will be taught from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.,
Friday, Aug. 20, along with fellow instructors McEvoy and Levy. The $295 entry
fee covers one-on-one instruction, table analysis, advanced odds and outs and
player perception training.

Saturday, Aug. 14, 4 p.m., No Limit Hold'em, $225 buy-in, $25 entry. Start with
$10,000 in chips with $10 optional bonus buy for additional $5,000.
Sunday, Aug. 15, 4 p.m., Ladies No Limit Hold'em (LIPS), $100 buy-in, $25 entry.
Start with $10,000 in chips with $10 optional bonus buy for additional $5,000.
Monday, Aug. 16, 6 p.m., No Limit Hold'em, $65 buy-in, $10 entry. Start with
$5,000 in chips with $5 optional bonus buy for additional $3,000.
Tuesday, Aug. 17, 6 p.m., No Limit Hold'em (6 max per table), $125 buy-in, $25
entry fee. Start with $10,000 in chips with $10 optional bonus buy for
additional $3,000.
Wednesday, Aug. 18, 6 p.m., No Limit Hold'em, $75 buy-in, $10 entry fee. Start
with $7,000 in chips with $10 optional bonus buy for additional $3,000.
Thursday, Aug. 19, 6 p.m., No Limit Hold'em, $175 buy-in, $25 entry. Start with
$12,000 in chips with $10 optional bonus buy for additional $3,000.
Friday, Aug. 20, Noon, Mega Satellite (5 seats guaranteed), $68 buy-in, $10
entry fee. Start with $3,000 in chips with $5 optional bonus buy for additional
$2,000.
Friday, Aug. 20, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Mike Matusow DeepStacks Live Advanced
Tournament Course.
Saturday, Aug. 21/Sunday, Aug. 22, 11 a.m., No Limit Hold'em DeepStack, $300
buy-in, $40 entry fee. Start with $25,000 in chips with $15 optional bonus buy
for additional $5,000. A prize pool of $30,000 is guaranteed.
All tournaments also will offer a staff bonus buy for additional starting chips.

Matusow, a resident of Las Vegas, NV, is a three-time World Series of Poker
bracelet winner and the winner of the 2005 WSOP Tournament of Champions. He has
amassed more than $7 million in lifetime earnings.
McEvoy, also a Las Vegas resident, won the inaugural WSOP Champions Invitational
in 2009 and the first Binion Cup, named after Benny Binion, the founder of the
World Series of Poker. McEvoy also is the 1983 WSOP Main Event Champion and a
four-time WSOP bracelet winner.
Levy, a resident of Los Angeles, CA, has won over $3 million playing online
poker. An Ultimate Bet sponsored pro, Levy finished fifth in the World Poker
Tour championship in 2008.
