WINNIPEG - Swan Lake First Nation will build a new $40-million casino near
Spruce Woods Provincial Park. The location for the Spirit Sands Casino is off
Highway 5 about 16 kilometers south of the Trans-Canada Highway between Carberry
and Glenboro. Construction should begin this fall.
The casino will feature 300 slot machines, five gaming tables and three
restaurants. A hotel is planned for the future.
Swan Lake First Nation Chief Francine Meeches said the casino will create
200-300 jobs for aboriginal and other local people in the area. Profits will be
shared with the 63 other First Nations in Manitoba.
