A bill is currently going in front of congress that would allow new casinos to open. The new casinos will be larger in scale and include more than the current poker rooms. Being dubbed, destination casinos, each of the purposed 5 casinos would operate Vegas style gaming. The purposed casinos would offer guest slot machines and table games.

A study was done last year regarding the potential tax revue that the state could receive if destination casinos were opened. The report of the results were released last Tuesday and was presented to the Regulated Industries Committee. Covering 13 other states that currently operate full scale casinos, the report showed Louisiana's annual revenue as $500 million. Pennsylvania receives $1 billion annually. The report also showed an increase in employment. Job creation could equal a total of 35,000 new jobs for all new casinos built.
This would include an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 new jobs at each casino.

Several of the games that would be offered are not permitted by the state. Therefore state legislation would also have to change to allow for certain types of gaming. Currently it is estimated a 50/50 split on approval for the new casinos.
