Wednesday marked the introduction of a new bill that would allow table games at
facilities that currently operate slot machines. The sponsor of LD 1418, An Act
to Allow Table Games at a Facility Licensed to Operate Slot Machines is Rep.
Doug Damon from Bangor. Currently Hollywood Slots is the only slot facility in
operation in Bangor.
Hearings are expected to be held by the state's House before voting will happen
on the mater. The legislation was sent to the Veterans and Legal Affairs
Committee to handle the hearings. If the committee decides too, then the bill
will be sent to the full Legislature.
The bill also will increase the tax rate from slot machine revenue from 39
percent to 46 percent. The Gambling Control Board will benefit from the
additional 7 percent. The money will be designated for administration expenses.
Additional revenues from the gaming will also go to the future Bangor $65
million arena and civic center complex.
