A new tribal vote will take place next month over the approval of a proposed casino. Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head members that are opposed to the project petitioned for the opportunity for another vote on the project.

The vote is scheduled to take place on August 16. It will take place during the Wampanoag's general membership meeting.

The proposed casino will be built at the tribe's community center. It will offer class II gaming. Aquinnah Wampanoag Gaming Corp. would acquire the community center and be responsible for the converting into the casino.

After plans for the new casino were announced, the town of Aquinnah issued a cease-and-desist letter. Supporters of the casino state that the town has no say on the project approval.

Over 70 people signed a petition to stop the project. Only 50 signatures are required

When the vote takes place next month, two thirds of the votes are needed in order for the casino project to stop.
