A ground breaking ceremony was held in Cass Lake, MN for the new location for the Palace Casino and Hotel.
The new location will be easier for guests to find. Officials hope that it will be more visible and increase the amount of visitors. It will be off of Highway 2 Frontage Road.
The casino hotel is owned by the Leech Lake Tribe. Members approved the project in an election held earlier this year in May.
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has agreed to finance the project. It is estimated to cost between $45 to $50 million.
The current building and location of the casino is in need of repairs and updates. The cost of those repairs and declining profits were the reasons behind the tribes support of relocating the casino.
It will now be renovated to provide a different function for the tribe. No plans have been released for what that might be.
Plans for the new location include blackjack tables and slot machines. There will be a restaurant, food court, and pub. As well as an arcade, event center, and gift shop. The hotel will have 100 guest rooms.
In the summer of 2019 is when the new Palace Casino and Hotel is scheduled to open.
Return to Minnesota Casinos.
