Harrah's Tunica Hotel & Casino closed on June 2nd. Some see it as the beginning of the end for the gaming industry in the delta.

In 2006, casinos took in $1.2 billion from gaming. In 2013 the number fell to $700 million. Experts believe the cause for the decrease is due to the recession and increased competition.

Tunica casinos have created 13,000. Over time, half of those people have been laid off.

In 2011 a study was conducted by the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau. The report stated that Tunica has a need to find a way to attract tourists other than with casinos.
