BUFFALO - Seneca Gaming Corp is preparing to add 200 slot machines to its
244 in the temporary Buffalo Creek Casino. The $8 million expansion project is
expected to start this month and be completed by early spring.
At the same time the $333 million Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino and hotel complex
is still on hold. It has been stalled since August 2008 due to economic
conditions and is complicated by an unresolved federal lawsuit filed by
anti-casino interests.
The economy has also stalled plans to add a new hotel to the Seneca Allegany
Casino and Hotel and expand the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel.
"I do see a total advancement (of the permanent Buffalo Creek casino and
hotel) somewhere in the future," said Jeffrey Gill, Seneca Gaming chairman.
"We're still committed to it and I'm always optimistic. Economics will determine
what direction we are headed," he said. "Ask me that same question in six
months."
