Mount Airy opened a new smoke free gaming room on Thursday. This was built in response to the Clean Indoor Air Act of 2008. The Act limits 75% of the casino floor as a no smoking area. However, if it can be proven by the casino that they are losing revenue in the non smoking area, they can lessen the percentage to 50%. This takes approval from the gaming board.

The new smoke free room was requested by casino guests. Numerous people had told the casino management that they wanted an area free of smoke.

The new gaming room called "The Lakeside" is 6,000 square feet. It is decorated with copper wall coverings and colorful carpet. Jeweled chandeliers and large windows. There are 275 gaming machines. Machine wages range from penny slots to $25. It can hold a capacity of 540 visitors. The room consists of two sections with cocktail service in the middle.

Guests that were present for the opening stated they were pleased with the new gaming room.
