The city of Philadelphia was assigned licenses for two casinos. Of those licenses, one was granted to the successful Sugarland Casino. The remaining gaming license was awarded to Foxwoods Casino Resort. However, that was recently revoked.

The operators of the Foxwoods Casino were unable to obtain the necessary funding needed to for the Philadelphia casino.

The available license will now be up for bid per the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Developer Bart Blatstein has expressed interest in winning the license bid. Blatstein is the current owner of the Daily News/Inquirer building located at Broad and Callowhill. If approved, he will build a casino hotel at that location.
