AIRWAY HEIGHTS, WASH. - The Spokane Tribe hopes to build a huge, new casino just a few miles from the Northern Quest Casino owned by the Kalispel Tribe. The project site is 145 acres of ancestral land near Fairchild Air Force Base. It will include a casino, 300-room hotel, retail space, five restaurants and a tribal cultural center at an estimated cost of $400 million dollars.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is currently reviewing an environmental impact report, and the tribe is reviewing traffic issues with the state transportation department. The FAA has already determined no problems with Spokane International Airport or Fairchild Air Force Base.
After approval by the federal government and the governor, the Spokane Tribe can proceed with their casino project. They hope to begin construction in the Spring 2013 and celebrate a grand opening late in the year.
