British Columbia First Nations
The languages of the Haisla, Heiltsuk, Kwakiutl and Nootka First Nations of British Columbia are derived from the Wakashan linguistic family, while the languages of the Coast Tsimshian and Nass-Gitksan are derived from the Tsimshian linguistic family. The inland Tlingit language is derived from the Tlingit linguistic family. The Bella Coola, Comox, Halkomelem, Lilloet, Okanagan, Sechelt, Shuswap, Squamish, Straits and the Thompson languages all spring from the Salishan linguistic family. The Kutenai derive their language from the Kutenaian linguistic family and the Haida derive their language from the Haidan linguistic family.
