December 17, 2007 WV Introduces Roulette, Craps and Blackjack
WHEELING – Roulette, craps and blackjack will begin this week at Wheeling Island
Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort, as both
racetracks become fully-operating casinos.
Both will host charity events Monday and Tuesday nights to introduce their new
games. Monday’s events are scheduled for 4-8 p.m. at both casinos.
If all goes as expected, the West Virginia Lottery Commission will grant
approval to officially kick off these games at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Mountaineer plans a ribbon cutting on Thursday, and a customer will be selected
from a drawing to be the first to roll the dice at their craps tables. They have
added 50 new gaming tables including 27 blackjack tables, 6 craps tables, 4
roulette tables, and 13 assorted games. There is 21,800 square feet dedicated to
the new games and interspersed throughout in different areas. One roulette and
blackjack area will be on the second floor of the grandstand above the poker
tables. Four roulette and blackjack areas are distributed in the hotel casino
area.
Mountaineer has hired 725 new employees to deal and serve the new gaming.
Wheeling Island has hired 200 new employees for the same purpose including 95
dealers and 85 supervisors.
Wheeling Island now has 43 gaming tables including 3 roulette tables, 26
blackjack tables, 4 craps tables, and 10 assorted games. They do not plan any
special promotions for the new opening on Thursday.

WHEELING – The West Virginia Lottery Commission decided that December 20th is
the date for introducing blackjack, craps, and roulette at the Mountaineer
Casino, Resort and Race Track in Chester and Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming
Center.
This action is subject to satisfying state regulators by testing their
operations in private events December 17th and 18th. If accepted, Mountaineer
will open 50 new table games and Wheeling Island will open 44. Poker rooms added
by both casinos last October.
