KARUK TRIBE'S YREKA CASINO
The Northern California Karuk Tribe are building a casino in the southeast corner of Yreka on a 60-acre site immediately east of Interstate 5. Thirty percent of visitors are expected to come from Medford, Oregon.
Ground breaking for the Yreka casino could start in the Spring 2015. It is planned in 2 phases:
$35 million project
36,000 square-foot gaming facility
500 slot machines
8 table games
20,000 additional square feet of gaming space (56,000 total)
300 additional slot machines (800 total)
8 additional table games
80-room, 46,000 sq-ft hotel
500 additional parking spaces
In December 2013 the Karuk Tribe signed a gaming compact with Gov. Brown, which authorizes up to a maximum of 1,500 slot machines at this casino. The State Assembly ratified the compact on August 19, 2014. There are also signed agreements with the city of Yreka and the California Department of Transportation.
