The Public is invited to the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe
23rd “Green Corn Dance” Intertribal Powwow and Gathering at Cattashowrock Town
on July 7, 2018. Cattashowrock Town, a Native Palisade Village, is located on the 263-acre
Tribal Land off Old Bridge Road, (Rt. 742), & Cattashowrock Trail at
27345 Aquia Path Courtland, Virginia 23837. The Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian “Iroquoian” Palisade Village
is a replica of the one described and documented in the manuscripts of William Byrd II of Westover
doing his visit to Southampton County in 1728.
The "Celebration of the Green Corn Dance," will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 10 AM to Sunset
on the tribe’s 10-acre Powwow Grounds. Don't miss the "Grand Entry" at 12 Noon. Bring the whole family and
enjoy the Drums, Native American Indian Dancers in full Native Regalia and the history of the tribe and
Cattashowrock Town Palisade Village as narrated by Chief Red Hawk, and of course the food and drink,
Fish and Chips, Corn on the Cobb, and Fry-bread. The Ethno-historic presentation on the Palisade Village
will take place at 3 PM. There will be Native American Arts and Craft Vendors on site with a host of crafts
and Native American Jewelry for sale.
