New Stampede Casino opens in CalgaryJune 20, 2008CALGARY – The new Stampede Casino opened yesterday in Calgary’s Victoria Park amid concerns that Alberta’s casino market may be saturated. The $50-million casino replaces an older one that has operated in the Big Four building over the last twenty years. FEATURES
Darcy Will, co-owner of the Stampede Casino, predicts this may be the last casino opened in Calgary for awhile. "This is probably full for the market for the time being. I mean the population growth has slowed somewhat. This is probably enough casinos for probably the next half a decade I would think. And I think we may see some rules coming out around that." Alberta has the most casinos in the country. There is a total of 24 including 7 in Calgary. The provincial government is currently considering 2 more applications from First Nations south of Edmonton in the Hobbema area. Return to Alberta Casinos. |
