Caesars and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians have partnered to build a $750 million casino resort in Danville, Virginia. The casino be named Caesars Virginia and is located on the former site of Dan River Mills' Schoolfield Division. Danville Casino, the Future Home of Caesars, is a temporary casino that opened May 15, 2023. Danville Casino will operate until Caesars Virginia opens in late 2024.

Caesars Virginia broke ground on the permanent casino and hotel in Danville, Virginia on August 12, 2022. The casino features 1,400 slot machines, 80 table games, a poker room and a sportsbook. Caesars Virginia is Now Accepting Hotel Reservations

November 16, 2024

As Caesars Virginia prepares to open its new casino next month in Danville, it is also preparing to receive guests at its new four-star hotel. The first available room dates have not yet been announced. However, online room reservations are being accepted for stays beginning in April.

The nightly room rates at the Caesars Virginia begin at $499 during the week and $699 on weekends. Weekday rates range from $499 to $589, and weekend rates are $799 to $889. There is also a $35 resort fee, which includes free parking.

The hotel will feature 320 guest rooms, a full-service spa (open Mon-Thu 10 AM - 6 PM), a pool (open 9 AM - 8 PM), and a 24/7 fitness center. The adjacent casino will feature 1,400 slot machines. 80 table games, a WSOP poker room, and a sportsbook.

Caesars Virginia Plans Ramsay's Kitchen!

In a press release Tuesday, Caesars Virginia announced plans to open a new Ramsay's Kitchen by the end of this year. The new dining venue will be located next to the hotel registration lobby and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Seating will accommodate 250 total guests. The restaurant will include an outdoor patio and a private dining room.

Caesars Virginia Expected to Open in Dec. 2024

Construction of Caesars Virginia is on pace to open this December, according to Danville city manager Ken Larking. Larking says he was told by casino officials the entire resort will open in December and he still believes that will happen.

Ken Larking's comments are consistent with public statements from Caesars Viginia officials that target the opening date for late 2024.

Caesars Virginia has been operating a temporary casino since May 15, 2023. The casino is named Danville Casino, the Future Home of Caesars, is a 40,000-square-foot tent structure located adjacent to the construction site of the permanent casino. Danville Casino will close and its equipment will be transferred into the permanent casino before the new casino opens.

The opening date for Caesars Virginia is expected to be announced in the very near future. So far, the casino and the hotel are both expected to open on the same date. We will continue to monitor all news developments and report breaking information as it occurs.

Caesars Virginia Nears Completion

Danville city officials say the construction of the new $750 million Caesars Virginia is on schedule to open before the end of this year. City Manager Ken Larking says, "I've been told that they will be open in December of this year for the full resort, so and that is the expectation."

City Manager Larking says the temporary casino, Danville Casino, paid $20 million dollars in state and local taxes last year. He expects that number to grow when the permanent casino opens.

The cost of building Caesars Virginia has almost doubled since the project began in 2020. The original estimate of $400 million has grown to over $750 million, according to Chris Albrecht, senior vice president and general manager of Caesars Virginia.

Albrecht explained the reasons for the cost increase.

"Some of the scope change included adding a covered parking garage, some incrementation to our hotel rooms, and then really the rest of it is just changes in construction costs and supply costs since this project started four years ago."

The 2020 agreement with the city requires Caesars Virginia to open Dec. 31, 2024. That goal is currently on-schedule per Albrecht. However, Danville City Manager, Ken Larking, says Caesars will open by Thanksgivings. Albrecht will not confirm that.

Caesars Virginia General Manager, Chris Albrecht, says there are 1,000 construction workers on the building site every day. The parking garage will be finished by August. The external walls are nearly completed and work is expanding on the internal walls of the hotel, convention area, and restaurants. The casino floor has preinstallation areas laid out for the gaming equipment.

No specific date for completion has been announced. However, Caesars continues to confirm its construction is on-schedule for a grand opening in late 2024.

The exterior of the hotel tower is near completion with installation of floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The exterior of the casino and restaurants is also near completion. The entire structure will soon be weather-tight.

Danville Casino Celebrates First Anniversary

An estimated million people visited Danville Casino over the past year, which exceeds the planning estimates. Similarly, the casino profits have exceeded expectations and provided higher revenues to the city. Danville City Manager Ken Larking said the city's casino revenues are well over its $13 million budget. Next year Caesars Virginia will replace the Danville Casino, and the city is budgeting for $25 million in revenues.

Although a specific opening date has not been announced for the Caesars Virginia, construction remains on-schedule for a grand opening in late 2024.

Caesars Virginia changes approved by Danville City Council

The construction costs for Caesars Virginia in Danville have risen from an initial estimate of $400 million in 2020 to over $750 million today. As a result, Caesars requested some changes to its development agreement with the city.

The Danville City Council met May 8th to review the casino amendments submitted by Caesars. The changes were approved by the council.

SUMMARY OF CHANGES

• The number of hotel rooms will be reduced from 500 to 320.

• The conference center and the live entertainment venue will be consolidated into one space.

• The number of employees will be reduced from 1,300 to 900.

• Caesars will pay a minimum wage of $15 an hour or 125% of the federal minimum wage, whichever becomes higher.

Caesars Virginia is scheduled to open in late 2024.

The Danville partnership between Caesars Entertainment and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) began in 2021. The EBCI leader said at the time:

Prior to the Danville casino partnership, Caesars and the EBCI have shared a 27-year relationship with other casinos. Their first casino was Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, which opened in 1997 in Cherokee, North Carolina. Their second casino was Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino, which opened in 2015 in Murphy, North Carolina. In 2018 the EBCI partnered with Caesars at the Caesars Southern Indiana inon the Ohio River across from Louisville, KY.

The tribe's parnership earnings pay for Cherokee health services and hospitals, education and schools, and public safety, and other community services.

Caesars Virginia reduces planned hotel size

February 8, 2024

Construction of Caesars casino and hotel in Danville, Virginia will be completed late this year. Due to higher costs, Danville City Manager Ken Larking says the size of the hotel has been reduced from the original plan of 500 rooms down to 320 rooms.

The development agreement signed Caesars and Danville specifies a minimum of 300 rooms, so the revised plan is still within the terms of the deal.

"... we've heard is that construction costs for them have skyrocketed quite a bit. They might be tweaking some programs. They're focusing on other things a little bit more but in their estimates, it was best to reduce the number of rooms and save costs so that funding could go to some other aspect of the project."

Caesars Virginia celebrates hotel construction milestone

Construction of Caesars Virginia reached a major milestone this week as the $750 million casino resort project in Danville continued on schedule for a grand opening late this year. The construction milestone was the completion of the steel framing of the hotel.

The event was celebrated Jan. 18th with a topping-off ceremony. An American flag and a pine tree were hoisted to the top of the hotel structure and placed next to an image of Julius Caesar.

Construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia began in August 2022. The 12-story hotel structure of steel and concrete has been completed, and windows are being installed on the first six floors. Similarly, the casino floor is poured and the casino's steel structure is completed.

Construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia casino in Danville has steadily progressed on schedule since its groundbreaking back in August 2022. This week Chris Albrecht, Caesars Virginia General Manager, confirmed the casino remains on track for opening in late 2024.

CONSTRUCTION STATUS
Caesars Virginia's construction has been underway since August 2022. The property's underground infrastructures are finished. The casino foundation and basement are poured, as well as the loading dock and back-end areas. Some of the surface parking lots are finished. Construction of the hotel tower is underway on the third floor. Completion is expected in late 2024.

RESTAURANTS
Albrecht would not disclose which restaurants are coming to Caesars Virginia. He said several are under consideration and will be announced later.

STAFFING
The temporary Danville Casino currently employs more than 400 workers. All will move over to the Caesars Virginia casino when it opens. Additional hiring for Caesars Virginia will begin in mid-2024. The total number of employees needed by Caesars Virginia is estimated to be 1,300.

TEMP CASINO
The temporary Danville Casino is renting its location and will shut down when Caesars Virginia opens. The casino has operated since May 15 and has 800 slot machines, 33 table games, 36 electronic table games and 12 sports-betting kiosks. Much of this equipment will be moved to the new casino.

Danville Casino generates $12M in 1st two weeks

Within two weeks of opening, Caesar's temporary casino in Danville generated $11.92 million in gaming revenue. Slot machines earned $10.2 million of the total, and table games brought in $1.7 million.

Danville Casino Opens May 15

April 28, 2023

Caesars Virginia in Danville announced it will open the "Danville Casino", its temporary casino, on May 15 at 10 AM. The announcement followed the Virginia Lottery Board's decision this week to issue a gaming license to the casino, the third casino license in the state.

Danville Casino is 40,000-square-foot tent structure with 740 slot machines, 25 table games, 28 electronic table games, Caesars Sportsbook, and a food and drink venue named Three Stacks.

Caesars Virginia: Dealer school for new Danville casino

As the new Danville casino prepares to open in July, the casino is training dealers for its table games. The classes have been operating four times a day since last February.

The temporary casino in Danville will employ 450 workers when it opens this summer.

"We're looking for jobs all across the board, dealers are a big one for us but we look for people in finance, marketing, food and beverage operations, IT, ... Dealers are the job we need the most of so we're always training new dealers."

The number and types of table games planned for the temporary casino have not been announced. The permanent casino opening in late 2024 will feature 1,400 slot machines, 80 live table games, 24 electronic table games, and a a WSOP poker room.

Caesars Virginia casino will bring millions in new revenue to Danville

April 3, 2023

The City of Danville, Virginia will soon receive new revenue from Caesars Virginia when its temporary casino opens in July. Danville expects the income to be $12.1M for the next fiscal year and $39M when the full casino opens in 2024.

"I'm excited about the fact that we are going, as a community we have -- we are going to use this opportunity to help better the lives of the people who live in Danville."

The new city budget proposes the following allocation of the funds:

• $2.8M to economic development initiatives
• $2.5 million to Danville Public Schools
• $840,000 to the police department headquarters
• $800,000 for blight removal
• $467,000 for gang prevention programming

Larking said: "I think with this opportunity, you know if we do it right, the people of Danville with reap great benefits," Larking explained. "From the economic opportunity that we're bringing to them, and the great quality of life, and the job opportunities."

Caesars Virginia is hiring 400 employees for its temporary casino in Danville, which is expected to open in July. Caesars needs to fill these positions before that time. Jobs include dealers, slot operations, security, finance, warehousing and more. (See job listings).

Chris Albrecht, the General Manager of Caesars Virginia, told the press:

"We've been in Caswell County, we've been in Greensboro, we went with the Chambers, we met with a lot of the colleges and universities that are ready. So we are looking for talented individuals not just here in Danville, but from the entire region of Virginia surrounding us here in Virginia and North Carolina region."

Caesars Virginia: Danville Casino Construction Update - March 2023

March 7, 2023

The temporary casino for Caesars Virginia in Danville remains on schedule for opening this summer. The casino is a large, white tent structure that can be seen on West Main Street at the former Dan River Mills site. A parking garage can also be seen. The temporary casino is expected to operate until late 2024 when the permanent Caesars Virginia opens.

Caesars Virginia will hire about 450 employees full and part time workers for the temporary casino. Several job fairs are scheduled this month. The company is offering jobs in security, marketing, accounting, executive assistants and a variety of other opportunities. Last month Caesars hired 100 table game dealers, who will begin a 12-week training course starting this month.

Caesars Virginia is a partnership between ?Caesars Entertainment and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) of North Carolina.

Construction of Caesars Virginia's casino, hotel and entertainment center began on August 12, 2022. The construction is expected to finish in late 2024. A temporary casino is also under construction on the same site. It is expected to open this July.

Caesars Virginia begins construction on temp casinoy

Caesars Virginia has begun construction of a steel-framed building for a temporary casino on the former Dan River Schoolfield site on West Main Street. The temporary casino is next to the building site for Caesars' permanent casino. The large structure can be seen from Bishop Road in Danville.

"My understanding is that they are working on it. It's pretty obvious if you go out there. There's a structure being built. So, they are proceeding with the plan."

The temporary casino will open by July 2023. The permanent Caesars Virginia casino will open in 2024.

Caesars Virginia Plans Temporary Casino in Mid-2023

November 8, 2022

Caesars plans to build a temporary casino in Danville, Virginia at the future site of Caesars Virginia. The site was home to the former Dan River textile mill. Caesars plans to open the temporary casino in mid-2023 and operate it during construction of the permanent Caesars Virginia, which is scheduled to open in late 2024.

There has been no formal announcement of the Danville temporary casino. However, the plan was confirmed three times last week in statements by corporate officisls during a quarterly earnings call with investors. The most notable comments were:

"We've got temporary casinos in Columbus, Nebraska, Danville, Virginia, that will hit next year."

- Thomas Reeg, Caesars Ent CEO

"We expect to open temporary casinos in both Danville, Virginia, and Columbus, Nebraska, by mid-year '23."

- Anthony Carano, Caesars President/COO

A day later a Danville oity official confirmed a plan and added some insight.

"The Caesars team told me they were working with the Virginia Lottery to have a temporary casino at the [Schoolfield] site."

- Ken Larking, Danville City

No other information about the plan was mentioned. A formal announcement is expected sometime soon following a greenlight from the Virginia Lottery.

Eastern Band of Cherokee partners with Caesars Virginia

August 12, 2022

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) has joined with Caesars Entertainment to build the new $675 million Caesars Virginia in Danville, VA. The two partners have a 20-year relationship in the operation of the two Cherokee casinos in North Carolina. EBCI and Caesars will share ownership of the Danville casino. Caesars will manage the operation.

Caesars Virginia will feature a casino with 1,400 slots, 80 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a World Series of Poker room and a Caesars Sportsbook. The hotel will offer 320 guest rooms and suites, a spa, pool, and 50,000 square-foot convention center. There will also be multiple restaurants and bars, and a live entertainment theater with 2,500 seats.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians released this statement:

"(the partnership is) a vital opportunity for our nation and our people. We are excited to be expanding our longstanding and successful partnership with Caesars Entertainment to develop a first-class resort that will be defined by luxury and service that Caesars' guests have known and come to expect."

Danville casino delays opening to 2024

May 9, 2022

The late 2023 opening date announced previously by Caesars Entertainment has become unrealistic due to supply chain delays of construction materials and industry-wide labor shortages. In a meeting with the Danville City Council last week, a Caesars spokesman said the revised opening date is now in 2024.

The corporate spokesman, Robert Livingston, said "We have seen supply chain issues and other market forces that continue to wreak havoc." The materials shortages are compounded by labor shortages.

Construction teams are currently removing vast amounts of concrete from the building site.

Caesars Virginia Casino begins construction | Update

October 1, 2021

Construction crews began site preparation work for the Caesars Virginia Casino last week at the former Dan River Inc. factory property. The work puts the construction schedule about two months ahead of plans for the $675 million Danville casino resort. Site work will continue into 2022 in preparation for the casino foundation which will be laid sometime in the first half of 2022.

At the same time demolition crews have also begun work at the site to dismantle and remove the Dan River factory buildings. Demolition and removal will run into second quarter of 2022. The large Dan River finishing building is 617,000 square feet and will be removed near the end of the demolition project. The three smokestacks will be preserved as a feature of the resort.

Construction is expected to last two years with the grand opening of Caesars Virginia Casino planned for late 2023.

Caesars Virginia in Danville will now be $100M larger

September 19, 2021

This week Caesars Virginia announced updates to its building plan in Danville and released new project renderings. The original $400 million project has now been expanded to $675 million for a larger hotel and convention space.

The hotel at Caesars Virginia will now be 320 guest rooms instead of the previously planned 300 rooms. The meeting and convention space will be expanded to 50,000 square feet.

The casino at Caesars Virginia will feature 1,400 slot machines, 75 table games, a World Series of Poker-branded live poker room and a sportsbook. There will also be an entertainment venue with seating for 2,500.

The groundbreaking for Caesars Virginia will be in December 2021 and the grand openiing will be in late 2023.
