Overview

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is a federally recognized tribe whose reservation spans parts ofPalm Springs, Cathedral City, and Rancho Mirage. The tribe operates a modern government with departmentsoverseeing cultural preservation, land management, environmental protection, and economic development. Thetribe operates multiple casino properties and other enterprises that support government services and communityprograms.

Membership

The tribe has approximately 500 enrolled members. Membership is based on lineal descent and governed by thetribe's enrollment policies.

Brief History

The Agua Caliente people are part of the Cahuilla, whose ancestral territory covers much of inland SouthernCalifornia. The reservation was established in 1876 and later expanded. The tribe has long been involved inland-use planning and economic development, particularly through leasing and commercial partnerships. Today,the tribe is a major economic and cultural presence in the Coachella Valley.
