Vallejo Temporary Casino | Update April 2026

April 10, 2026

What happened to the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians' plan to open a temporary Vallejo casino last January or in early 2026? So far, nothing has happened and an opening date has never been set.

The plan for a temporary, "preview casino" was first announced by the Daily Republic on December 26, 2025 based on statements by the Scotts Valley tribal chairman. The casino would be located on the tribe's 128-acres of land in Vallejo near I-80 and Highway 37, and would operate with a limited number of Class II slot machines housed inside modular buildings, which have been recently renovated and repurposed for gaming.

"This facility will allow us to exercise our gaming rights and provide meaningful economic opportunity for our members and all Vallejo residents while we work on our permanent facility."

- Scotts Valley Chairman Shawn Davis

The temporary casino was originally targeted to open in January. Then some media sources reported the opening will be in early 2026. Since that time, there has been nothing more to report. For example:

➤ No opening date has been announced
➤ No other specifics have been released by the tribe.
➤ No slot machines are installed per the tribe
➤ No hiring announcements
➤ No equipment delivery reports
➤ No regulatory filings
➤ No city of county notices

The Scotts Valley tribe continues to say the temporary casino will "open soon", but these factors indicate the casino may be intentionally stalled, and the tribe is hoping for a favorable decision from the federal government that will be announced very soon.

A federal review has been underway for over year now since the Department of Interior rescinded its initial approval for the Scotts Valley tribe to build a $700 million casino resort in Vallejo, and a final decision could be coming any day. However, no decision deadline has been set, and the review process could continue through the end of the year.
