Wind Creek Racecourse Casino Birmingham

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians announced an agreement to buy the Birmingham Race Course Casino on November 18, 2024. The deal was finalized on April 2, 2025. The tribe plans to make a major investment in the property to someday become a destination casino, racecourse and resort.

Birmingham Racecourse originally opened as the Birmingham Turf Club on March 3, 1987. The track featured thoroughbred horse racing. Greyhound racing was added in 1993 and continued to 2020. The track also added simulcast wagering and "historical horse racing" machines.

Wind Creek in Birmingham is one of eight casino properties owned and operated by the Poarch Creek Indians. The other casinos are Wind Creek Atmore in Atmore, Alabama, Wind Creek Montgomery in Montgomery, Alabama, Wind Creek Casino Wetumpka in Wetumpka, Alabama, Wind Creek Chicago Southland near Chicago, IL, Wind Creek Bethlehem in Pennsylvania, Wind Creek Aruba and Wind Creek Curacao in the Caribbean.

Wind Creek Plans Birmingham Resort

The Poarch Creek Indians announced on April 2 that Wind Creek Hospitality, its casino and hotel business, has finalized the purchased of the Birmingham Racecourse. The price has not been disclosed; however, it is expected to be a highly significant investment in the Tribe's long-term plan to develop a "world-class destination resort".

Wind Creek plans to spend the remainder of 2025 working with city officials to work out the details of the transformation of the Birmingham Racecourse into a destination resort. In the meantime, the racetrack will continue to operate parimutuel and historical horse racing games.
