Arizona's Indian gaming compacts signed by Gov. Doug Ducey in April 2021 added sports betting and included a new casino to be built by the Gila River Indian Community south of Chandler.

The new Gila River casino opened June 30, 2023 and features 813 slot machines, table games and a sports book. The estimated cost of construction was $180 million.

This casino is the fourth owned by the Gila River Indian Community joining Lone Butte Casino in Chandler, Vee Quiva Casino in Laveen, and Wild Horse Pass Casino in Chandler.

The center video wall inside Santan's BetMGM Sportsbook is dedicated to sporting event telecasts. Video walls on the left and the right provide all the day's game scores and betting odds.

Sporting events are also shown on the circular LED display above Santan's center bar, the "Hive".

The Hive display is 58 feet long and five feet high and can be divided to show multiple games simultaneously.

Santan Mountain Casino Boasts Largest Sportsbook in AZ

The largest casino sportsbook in Arizona is located inside the new Santan Mountain Casino. The BetMGM Sportsbook is a 7,000 square-foot betting lounge with a 130-foot LED screen for viewing sporting events along, eight self-service betting kiosks and four betting windows.

Santan Mountain Casino Opens Today!

June 30, 2023

Gila River Resorts & Casinos opens its new Santan Mountain Casino today with a two-day, grand-opening celebration (June 30 - July 1).

The celebration will include a special performance by country music star Gabby Barrett, casino giveaways, spectacular drone shows, live DJs, Vegas-style showgirls, stilt walkers, fire breathers, and commemorative t-shirts. Concerts start at 8 PM both nights, and tickets cost $20.23 each.

Country music star Gabby Barrett's concerts will be performed in the Silver Leaf Ballroom. Afterwards, visitors will be invited outside to the garden area to view a dramatic drone show lighting up the surrounding mountains.

The $180 million Santan Mountain Casino features a 33,000 square-foot gaming floor with floor-to-ceiling windows, 813 slot machines, 25 table games, and a BetMGM Sportsbook.

Santan Mountain Casino prepares to open June 30!

The grand opening of the new Gila River Casino at Santan Mountain will be celebrated June 30 and July 1. Country music star Gabby Barrett will perform with live shows at 8 PM on both nights. After the concerts, a drone show will light up the desert landscaping surrounding the casino. Guests can enjoy the show from the casino's outdoor garden area.

Gila River Resorts & Casinos has been hosting job fairs to hire employees for the Santan Casino, as well as their other gaming locations. Hiring of 700 new employees will run through June 29th. Information is available at workatgila.com.

Santan Casino is located at the southeast corner of Gilbert Road and Hunt Highway. The address is 7101 S Gilbert Road in Chandler.

Gila River Casino Santan Mountain Opens June 30

After 18 months of construction and a cost of $180 million, the new Gila River Casino Santan Mountain is ready to celebrate its grand opening on June 30. The opening day events will include a major concert to be announced soon. The new casino is located south of Chandler near Gilbert Road and Hunt Highway.

Santan Mountain is the first new casino built in the state with an updated gaming compact. The compact allows sports betting and Vegas-style table games, including craps, roulette and mini-baccarat.

The Santan Mountain casino will include 813 slot machines, three pits for table games, a high-limit area and a BetMGM sportsbook, the largest sportsbook in Arizona.

Santan Mountain will also have multiple dining venues. Honey and Vine is the signature restaurant serving rotisserie specialties with ingredients grown on the Gila River Indian Community. A food court will feature three restaurants: Rizzo's, serving pizzas and Italian food, Taste Kitchen, serving American traditions, and Mein Dish, serving Asian cuisine.

Santan Mountain Casino Project Update - June 2022

The Santan Mountain Casino is proceeding on schedule since breaking ground last October. This week Gila River Resorts & Casino announced the new executive team for managing the operation. The team members are Blake Katsnelson, Aaron Bayne, Sera Ribble Cocharo, and David Baughn.

• Blake Katsnelson will be the General Manager of Santan Mountain Casino. Katsnelson has years of experience at Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino and the Lone Butte Casino.

• Aaron Bayne is the new director of table games. He has worked 20 years for Gila River.

• Sera Ribble Cocharo will head the restaurant and bar services at Santan Mountain. Cocharo has 13 years in food and beverage services at Gila River casinos.

• David Baughn will be director of facilities and EVS and brings 25 years of experience.

The Gila River Indian Community broke ground in October 2021 on their new casino at Santan Mountain. The $150 million project will take 18-24 months to complete. Santan Mountain will feature 813 slot machines, blackjack, craps, roulette, a high-limit gaming room and a sportsbook. The casino will also include several restaurants and bars, and possibly a future hotel.

New Gila River Casino Santan Mountain breaks ground near Chandler

The Gila River Indian Community celebrated the groundbreaking for new casino on Monday. The casino will be the tribe's fourth and will be named Gila River Casino Santan Mountain. The location is a 160-acre site south of Loop 202 in Chandler near Gilbert Road and Hunt Highway.

The casino project will cost $150 million and take 18-24 months to complete. When finished it will feature 813 slot machines, table games including mini baccarat, craps, roulette, a high-limit gaming salon and a BetMGM Sportsbook. The casino will also have several restaurants and bars including a bar with entertainment in the center of the gaming salon. A hotel may be added in the future.

Update: New casino project near Chandler, AZ

August 4, 2021

The Gila River Indian Community announced plans last June to build a $100 million casino south of Chandler, Arizona, The casino was approved in a new gaming compact signed by Gov. Doug Ducey last April. The compact authorizes the casino to operate slot machines, table games and a sportsbook.

The casino announcement has prompted infrastructure concerns by Chandler officials and social media postings. The cost of roads and other improvements will have to be resolved between the city and tribe. This is typically negotiated through a municipal services agreement, in which the tribe agrees to compensate the city for the incurred costs and public services provided for the casino.

Chandler city Councilman OD Harris told the SanTan Sun News:

"What I am hearing is 580 acres of land to be developed into a world-class casino, golf course and a hotel with spa amenities.

"We are still working on learning the details of their master plan. The Native nation have been keeping things close to chest.

"The City of Chandler respects the sovereignty of the Gila River Indian Community and wants our residents to recognize that the city has no jurisdiction over the Gila River Indian Community or its casino enterprises."

New Gila River Casino planned south of Chandler

June 30, 2021

The Gila River Indian Community announced plans this week to build a new casino south of chandler, Arizona. The tribe's Community Council has approved the project and allocated a budget for development.

The new casino was included in the April gaming compact amendments that added sports betting. This will be the fourth casino owned by the tribe.

Gila River Indian Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis said in a statement:

"Adding a 4th casino will bring additional revenue, security, and critical services to Community members. In addition, we anticipate being able to add hundreds of new jobs that Community members can take advantage of, and we expect that many of those will be filled by Community members."

Construction of the new casino will cost $100 million and is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete. Its location will be near Gilbert Road and Hunt Highway south of Chandler.
